What Do Scott Brown, Massachusetts, and American Idol Have in …
Scott Brown and American Idol connected?
People love making connections. who hasn’t heard of the game six Degrees to Kevin Bacon? So – down to brass tacks; what’s the connection between Massachusetts, Scott Brown, and American Idol? I thought you might. Do you want to know where to get the cheapest personal loans, too? not now? OK, we’ll talk about that later.
The first part — the connection between Scott Brown and Massachusetts — is well-known. Scott Brown, a Republican, is the Senator who won a special election in Massachusetts, highly regarded as “one of the bluest” states in the U.S. He also pledged not to vote for Obama’s health care package, and it doesn’t look good for that bill. So Scott Brown, Massachusetts Senator, is kind of a big deal.
Scott Brown and American Idol
A lot of people think Scott Brown and Massachusetts is a big deal, and a lot of people think American Idol is a big deal. There’s probably not a huge crossover there, but though these two entities may not have the same fan base, they do have something in common. Scott Brown’s daughter, Ayla Brown, was a contestant on American Idol season five.
Regardless of my political beliefs, I do find it pretty interesting that the Senator who filled a Kennedy’s seat comes from a family that seems to like being in the spotlight. Ayla Brown might not ring any bells for most American Idol fans, but hardcore fans might remember her from the Top 16 in Season 5.
Ayla Brown, season two
Still, making it to the top 16 was enough to get her noticed. Scott Brown’s victory in the Massachusetts Senate race appears to be getting her back into the limelight. If you go by some of the most popular google searches recently, Scott Brown is one of the most famous people in the US. So, will some of his fame result in Ayla Brown getting a second chance at singing stardom? stranger things have happened.

Fox calls Paula Abdul's Drunken Antics 'Technical Difficulties'
Posted Jan 15th 2007 5:17PM by TMZ Staff
By now you’ve seen the video of Paula Abdul’s wacky appearance on a Seattle morning news show (click here if you haven’t), where she was promoting tomorrow’s premiere of “American Idol.” Paula’s reps chalked up her odd behavior to “technical problems.” Now Fox has issued a statement standing behind their Laker girl.
“All of us at Fox have tremendous respect and admiration for Paula Abdul,” the statement reads. “She is a consummate professional who always gives 100% to everything she does. Last week, during a satellite press tour there were intermittent technical difficulties, including severe audio issues in which multiple stations were speaking to her at once.
“Rather than getting angry about these difficulties, or stopping the tour, Paula forged ahead and decided to have fun with the increasingly challenging situation. Unfortunately, because reporters and viewers were unaware of the situation, her humor was misconstrued.”

TV Watch: ‘American Idol’ recap: Jesus balks!
a few important facts learned on American Idol’s top 20 results show tonight: God is not a huge fan of chronic over-singing. a toned back end won’t get you as far as six-pack abs. America is definitely not ready for a Creed comeback. And bird feathers are on sale in bulk down at the Idol commissary. (Get ‘em now, while supplies last!)
And that pretty much sums up the sleepy, one-hour telecast, seeing how there wasn’t much in the way of drama or surprise in the four eliminations and two musical numbers on the docket.
The evening’s most satisfying moment arrived with the elimination of Jermaine Sellers, who Ryan Seacrest diplomatically described as ”one of our more vocal contestants even when not singing.” after spouting some nonsense on Tuesday how his ”homeboy” Jesus would magically usher him in to the top 16 despite a vocally abhorrent cover of ”What’s going On” Jermaine seemed to get struck by a thunderbolt when Ryan Seacrest called him down to center stage along with early front-runner Andrew Garcia, then declared that one of ‘em was heading home.
Ellen DeGeneres chose not to ”make the MTV call” when Ryan asked her which contestant’s neck should get kissed by the guillotine’s blade instead choosing to riff obtusely on Simon’s British pronunciation of the word ”frustrated” (frust-TRAY-ted) but it was clear that the fop in the pink and gray patterned shirt and white bow-tie was doomed.
[Bonus question: Was Jermaine wearing quarter-gloves or modified sweatbands on his lower hands/upper wrists? Or were they merely discarded remnants of Michelle Delamor's Tuesday-night muffs? who cares? The hideous accoutrements should've resulted in an automatic DQ the second Jermaine took the Idol stage!]
I’ve got to admit that while Jermaine’s exit performance once again showed total disdain for Marvin Gaye’s classic melody, the guy sounded 30 percent less ridiculous/shrill than he did on Tuesday. that is, except for the part where he tried to wax poetic about his ouster, erroneously declaring that ”where I sing from, you can’t be taught how to riff and run and sing high notes” and finally musing that ”in God, there’s no failure.” Um, dude, America would rather risk an echo of Tim Urban’s ”Apologize” than give you another moment in front of 25 million viewers. if that’s not failure, then I’m not a squealing fanboy of Allison Iraheta.
Still, I think my Twitter follower ”Megakath” summed it up best: ”That elimination was brought to you by Jermaine Purifory…justice!” yes, Ken Warwick, I’ll go to my grave believing the whole Sellers-over-Purifory fiasco was an unfortunate filing mixup that you were just too embarrassed to admit. Do us a solid and cast the dashing ”Brick House” vocalist for season 10, okay? (Oh, and side note: going back to the subject of Twitter, you can stay up to date on all my Idol-related news and ridiculata by following me @EWMichaelSlezak.)

Four More “Idols” Eliminated: John Park; Jermaine Sellers; Michelle Delamor; Haeley Vaughn

And then there were 16. We said farewell to four more semifinalists on American Idol Thursday, and unlike last week, no one really had any a good reason to complain. Getting the boot this week were: college student John Park, 21; Holy Roller Jermaine Sellers, 27; Miami’s own Michelle Delamor, 22; and 16-year-old Haeley Vaughn — who butchered her rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb.”

The American Idol top 10 girls battled it off for the second time on the Idol stage for your vote on Wednesday (March 3). Didi Benami tried to do something different with Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me” (watch video below). she is a sweet girl and we love her but Didi is limited by her amazing voice to a certain type of songs and it comes out sounding like the same thing over and over again. Kara DioGuardi went straight to the point – it just wasn’t good! Even through the judges weren’t that mean brutally honest with her, Didi was left in tears. get it together, girl!

'American Idol': Katharine McPhee's advice to the top 20: 'Pick a …
Katharine McPhee hasn’t caught a lot of “American Idol” this season, but she can still feel the show’s impact.
Granted, the season 5 runner-up has had a few things on her plate. In addition to touring in support of her album “Unbroken,” she has a guest-starring role on NBC’s “Community” next week and was just cast in an NBC comedy pilot called “The Pink House.”
“The only thing I’ve really watched this season was there was a girl [Didi Benami] who sang my song ‘Terrified’ during Hollywood week,” McPhee tells Zap2it. “It’s amazing to see that come full circle. … Kara DioGuardi wrote it and I performed it [on 'Unbroken'], and literally the next day it was downloaded so many times on iTunes. … I think it’s amazing that the show still has such power.”
McPhee also has some advice for the “Idol” top 20, and it echoes something the judges have been hitting particularly hard so far this year: “Just know who you are as an artist, and if you don’t, pick a direction,” she says.
“That’s something I didn’t really get when I was on the show. I thought, ‘Oh, I’m a great singer, I can sing the phone book. If you give me a country song, I’ll sound like a country singer. give me a jazz song, I’ll sound like a jazz singer.’ what I didn’t get — and this may sound stupid, but I was; I was just young. what I didn’t get was that the show is about identifying yourself as a brand right away. what you are on that show is what you’re going to be the rest of your career. If you make a record that comes close to the brand you created on the show, you’re going to do well.
“So that’s my advice — pick an angle, pick a direction, and stick with it. find a way to stick with it.”
Of course, that’s easier said than done, McPhee adds. She says it’s very easy to get “caught up” in choosing songs that showcase vocal range, but that’s not always the most important thing.
“It’s about projecting what you cando to the people watching on their television sets,” she says. “It’s not about how high you can sing or how well you can dance to the song while you’re singing it. It’s about finding the right song — and that’s something they always talk about on the show. It’s easy to say, but it’s a hard thing to do.”

'American Idol' quick and dirty: Haeley Vaughn can't 'Climb'
It is time for Haeley Vaughn to go home, but Lilly Scott, Crystal Bowersox, Katelyn Epperly and Siobhan Magnus all really stood out amongst the Top 10 “American Idol” women.
This is Zap2it’s new quick ‘n dirty “American Idol” recap. Look for the full recap Thursday morning.
The Highlights: Crystal Bowersox, Lilly Scott, Katelyn Epperly and Siobhan MagnusThese four women killed it. they were all absolutely mind-blowing and in totally different ways. Crystal and Lilly may both have the “busker” (read: homeless person) vibe going, but their tone and style is completely different. All four were excellent. Siobhan was actually a little breath-taking, as in she literally stole my breath at one point.
The Lowlights: Haeley VaughnOh, Haeley. Wanting with all your might to be country-pop will not make it so. “The Climb” is way too big for you. you seem like a sweet girl and the makeover has actually caused me to rescind my former thoughts about your personal style. But you aren’t good enough to play with the big girls. The Lights: Katie Stevens and Lacey BrownThey both improved remarkably. Katie’s on-stage age can now be processed as under 30, while Lacey managed to be upbeat and still let her interesting tone shine through.
