Settlement killings inhuman, Abbas tells Israel (Reuters)

Published by in Uncategorized on March 14th, 2011 | Comments Off

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday condemned the killing of five members of a Jewish settler family and told Israel he was determined to help catch those responsible.

Abbas’s interview with state-funded Israel Radio followed a complaint by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the his administration’s earlier condemnation of the weekend knife attack had been lukewarm.

“This was a disgraceful act, inhuman and immoral,” Abbas said in Arabic comments translated into Hebrew by the interviewer.

“I’m not capable of seeing a four-month-old baby girl murdered, or a woman slaughtered,” he said. “Any person who has a sense of humanity would be pained and driven to tears by such sights.”

Friday’s attack in the Itamar settlement, which Israel blamed on Palestinians, shattered the relative quiet of the occupied West Bank and illustrated the long-standing distrust between Abbas and Netanyahu.

Abbas said he telephoned Netanyahu to offer condolences as well as help from his security force in solving the attack.

“Had we had advance information, we would have prevented this,” he said. “Now we want to know who carried it out.”

In broadcast remarks to Israel’s cabinet, Netanyahu said on Sunday that “alarming incitement in Palestinian schools, mosques and media” had prepared the ground for the Itamar attack.

Abbas rejected the allegation, saying his Palestinian Authority was “the only place in the Arab and Muslim world” where mosques used sermons pre-approved and disseminated by the government.

He offered to set up a joint committee with Israel and the United States to vet Palestinian schoolbooks.

Big in Germany: Ballet Flashmob

Published by in Uncategorized on March 8th, 2011 | Comments Off

Flashmobs are one of the most persistent trends on YouTube. Some sing, others dance. Some do both. Some get married. But every time the form is on the verge of feeling tired and forced, a new one pops up in a place we didn’t expect. This week’s flashmob is classically trained, and they’re very popular in Germany.

According to the uploader, this performance in Berlin’s primary train station features more than 200 dance enthusiasts, including the entire ensemble of the Berlin State Ballet as well as a group of ballet students. Since Saturday, the clip has been viewed over 200,000 times, mostly in Germany where it’s currently among the Most Shared and Most Viewed videos.

It appears to be closely tied to a new production of “Oz – The Wonderful Wizard” going up in the city.

Born This Way Released – Long Awaited Lady GaGa

Gaga Little monsters, get your paws up.

Lady Gaga has grown impatient and can’t hold onto her single any longer.

Following her declarative tweet Monday morning that she “Can’t wait any longer, single coming Friday,” Interscope Records  announced Wednesday that “Born This Way,” the first single and title track from the singer’s eagerly anticipated third album, would indeed be released Friday.

Hey, what Gaga wants, Gaga gets.

The song will be serviced worldwide to radio at 6 a.m. EST on Friday, before being available for purchase online at 9 a.m. EST the same day.

The announcement came after the singer tweeted the single artwork for the track.

On the cover, Gaga’s hair is in full ’80s tease, and she is rocking some very peculiar horns and sharply pointed shoulders.

“It has been in my heart for over a year,” she wrote on Twitter. “I’m so excited to share it.”

The track is produced by Gaga, Fernando Garibay and DJ White Shadow.

She has already teased to her little monsters with the full lyrics to the song, and at the 2010 MTV VMAs,  Gaga told the audience that if she won Video of the Year (for “Bad Romance”), she promised herself she would reveal the name of the album, before belting a few lyrics of the title track.

Lady Gaga- Born this Way is out Friday, New Video

We’ve been so excited about Born This Way that we almost forgot there are sixteen other tracks on the album which we just can’t WAIT to hear!

In the upcoming profile on Lady GaGa in Vogue, the singer opened up about what other songs to expect once her new single hits the airwaves tomorrow, and the more we hear, the more excited we get!

According to the article:

“After I wrote it [Born This Way], the gates just opened, and the songs kept coming. It was like an immaculate conception.” She plays a few more songs and mentions a few others—with tantalizing titles like “Hair,” “Bad Kids,” and “Government Hooker.”

The second single to be released is called “Judas” and is, typically, a mash-up: The melody sounds like it was written for the Ronettes, but it is set to a sledgehammering dance beat and is about falling in love with backstabbing men of the biblical variety. Another song, “Americano,” which she describes as like “a big mariachi techno-house record, where I am singing about immigration law and gay marriage and all sorts of things that have to do with disenfranchised communities in America,” has a resounding Piafesque chorus. Turns out it was intentional. “It sounds like a pop record, but when I sing it, I see Edith Piaf in a spotlight with an old microphone.” (Piaf is an apt reference—they both evince a similar brand of heroic vulnerability.) But, she says, “there are some very rock-’n’-roll moments on the album, too: There’s a Bruce Springsteen vibe, there’s a Guns N’ Roses moment. It’s the anthemic nature of the melodies and the choruses.” She feels it’s different from—and better than—anything she’s done before. “It is much more vocally up to par with what I’ve always been capable of. It’s more electronic, but I have married a very theatrical vocal to it. It’s like a giant musical-opus theater piece.”

Unbelievable!

There’s no way to properly prepare for what’s to come – we know that no matter what, you’re going to be absolutely BLOWN AWAY by what LG has managed to create with this album!

Gurl is UNSTOPPABLE!

Get yourselves ready, Monsters, it’s going to be TRULY spectacular!
